Pre K French

This month our Pre K's have been learning the French word for January, 'janvier'. We have been practicing saying the word all together as a class, as well as individually. We also practiced tracing the word and got to colour in a snowman. We are all excited to start learning the other months in French.

Pre K Visual Art

Our PreK group has been spending  a lot of time working on our fine motor skills and creative brains during Visual Arts!
Here our little preschoolers were able to experiment with painting by moving marbles and toys cars over a blank canvas. The children were interested in seeing what can be painted with marbles and cars instead of ordinary paint brushes.

The manipulation of  these art tools helps to develop their fine motor skills and also helps to develop their ability to make patterns and begin to measure possible outcomes during art activities. This month will feature many more activities that develop their drawing and  writing skills.

Marble Painting

Since all the children at Little Feet Little Faces love to play with our Marble Run game, we decided to incorporate the marbles in art class. Once the children decided what colours to add to their painting, we put a few marbles in a tin with our paper, and moved it around to create an abstract painting. The children were all concentrating on the movement, and eventually got the hang of getting the coordination of moving the tin from side to side. We hope you like our abstract paintings!

Numbers with Pre K

This week the Pre K's have been working extra hard while practicing tracing the numbers 1-5, as well as counting up to 10 objects. The children enhanced their fine motor skills as they traced the numbers, and demonstrated numeracy skills as they counted how many circles to draw in the corresponding box.

Fun with Dancing and Dramatic Play!

This week our PreK’s began learning a dance to "I Just Can't Wait to be King." During our dance sessions the children are working on jumping, twirling, movement and expression. The positive and upbeat music was enjoyed by the students so much that we kept the music on during Creative Play. Our wonderful preschoolers continue to learn co-operation skills, helping skills and are developing positive attitudes toward learning  and play. See you next week!

Team Art!

This week our JK class worked as a team to create  a special Winter Wonderland art piece. We shared our paints and brushes and took turns finding a space on the paper to paint. We discussed what things we knew about Winter and how we could create a wonderland. Our finished product looks great!

Music with Ms. Lauren J

Today the whole school was able to have a special music class with Ms. Lauren J! Ms Lauren J played the piano for us as we sang some of our favourite songs. We sang the 'Ice Cream Song', 'If You're Happy and You Know It', 'Twinkle Twinkle' and more. Music is a very important part of our development and we all had a great time! Thank you Ms. Lauren J!

Birthday Surprise!

Today was Ms. Amy's birthday and the children all worked together to create a special birthday surprise. They decided to make a card for her and each had a chance to draw something of their very own. While she wasn't looking, all of the children quietly tiptoed behind her and yelled, "Surprise!! Happy Birthday!" We all sang happy birthday together and watched as she opened her special card. We had a big group birthday hug -- it was a great surprise and she appreciated all of the hard work that the children put into it!

Yoga with the PreK's

This week we talked about relaxation and ways to stay calm when there is a lot of excitement in our environments. The children each took out their own yoga matt and we tried lying still for one whole minute. We listened to the soft music playing while we stretched our bodies and focused on deep breathing. It was a very relaxing class and the children can't wait to do it again!

Pre K working together

This week our Pre K classes have been focusing on working together as a team. We have been discussing how important it is to listen to our friends and to take turns. We practised this by passing the markers when we coloured in our snowmen. In our music circle we took turns using the different instruments and worked together as a team to create a wonderful song!

Patterns with Pre K

This week the Pre K class has been practicing simple AB patterns. We gathered red and green blocks, ordered them in an AB pattern, and then practiced repeating the pattern. We all took turns putting the correct colour block at the end of our pattern to help us learn. At the end, we worked individually to try and make our own AB patterns. We all did a good job!

JK Maths

This week we completed a very tricky Math activity. The children coloured their number cards, then using very precise and slow cutting techniques they cut all of them out carefully. Then we put them in order and discussed the sequence of numbers. Finally we glued them together. The children worked hard at this activity and used all their patience to cut on the lines just right. We are very proud of them!

JK

Our JK class has been working very hard learning their new sight words this week. We have been writing our sight words, reading them on flash cards, finding them using our special magical pointing stick on the sight word chart and even trying to make the letters with our bodies!
We even have our very own Dino Sight Word Book where we practice our sight words every day! We will be reading in no time :)

Winter Wonderland

Today in Art class, the Pre K's made a Winter Wonderland scene, together as a class. First we made four different shades of blue by adding some white paint into the containers. When we each had a turn stirring the paint, we saw the blue paint getting lighter. Our second job was to cover a large piece of paper in the blue paint. Afterwards, our teacher helped us cut snowflakes, and we also made a snowman! We hope you'll like our Winter Wonderland!
