Class 1- Experimenting with Musical Sounds

This week during music class time, our little friends from Class 1 took their time to practice their song Teddy Bear Teddy Bear. The friends first reviewed the lyrics and movements followed by listening to the song played on the piano. They accompanied the music with their own voices and the movements they had learned before. They also played a game where they matched animals like the tiger and the mouse with body movements and sounds that that animal would make. Beforehand, we discussed what sounds that animal might make, if it was a quiet or loud animal and if it made short sounds or long sounds. For instance, the mouse became a short up-down movement of the hands and the tiger became a loud 'Roar'. They practised using these new sounds and movements with the accompaniment of animal music from the piano, preparing them to later recognise this kind of music and the associated animal/sound. Also, they practised clapping and tapping the steady beat and at the same time counting to four. The friends created a a new way of tapping the steady beat - with a sea-saw motion of both hands on their knees. Good job keeping up the counting and beat! What a wonderful time our friends in Class 1 had this week.
